How firm are the bristles?
Choose boar bristle if you like a medium-firm bristle toothbrush for a thorough cleaning experience

Are they really plastic free?
Yes, genuinely plastic-free. The bristles are natural boar or horse hair, not nylon and not "plant-based" plastic (castor-oil bristles are just Nylon 1010 in disguise).
That does mean they aren't vegan, and we're upfront about it.
How are the bristles sourced & sterilised?
How we source: we work closely with suppliers to ethically source our bristles in the same way hair brush manufacturers do.
Some hairs are taken from the animals during their upbringing, but most are up-cycled from animals already processed for food.
No animals are harmed specifically for bristles; it's a byproduct that would otherwise go to waste.
Is it perfect? No.
But here's what we're facing: it's the only truly plastic-free toothbrush option available.
Every plastic brush you use sheds microplastics into oceans, poisoning marine life and entering our food chain. Hundreds of millions end up in landfills annually, leaching toxins for centuries.
We're not contributing to animal agriculture – we're repurposing waste that already exists.
Until the world stops eating meat, there will be a surplus of boar hair.
We believe using it is better than creating more plastic pollution that harms countless animals and ecosystems.
How we sterilise: Our natural bristles are treated using a strict, multi-stage high-temperature sterilisation process.
The bristles are thoroughly steam sterilised at 100°C for 6 hours, and then UV light sanitized.
This strict thermal cleaning removes all biological matter, guaranteeing the bristles are completely sterile, hygienic, and odourless for safe use.
Will the bamboo get mouldy?
We steam-carbonise the bamboo at up to 300°C, which sterilises the wood and strips out the sugars and starches mould feeds on, leaving the handle highly water-resistant. It's still bamboo, so stand it somewhere it can dry between uses and it'll go the distance.
How long does each toothbrush last?
Like any normal toothbrush, dentists recommend you replace your toothbrush every 2-3 months with proper hygiene use.

Bamboo, steam-carbonised to resist bacteria and mould. Sealed at the base with a non-toxic finish so water doesn't seep in. Fights off mould as long as possible (but its still an organic product)

Sterilized bristle tufts are mechanically pressure anchored into into the wooden toothbrush head using machines. No epoxy, no resin, no adhesive used at all.
Ends in your compost, not landfill
Fully compostable. Plastic brushes sit in landfill for 400+ years. Replace every 6–12 weeks, in line with dentist recommendations.

Which Bristles are right for you?
The right bristle is the one you'll actually use twice a day. Here's how to choose.
Boar bristle.
Coarser, springy, holds shape. Closest feel to a medium-strong nylon brush. Best for plaque-led routines.
You currently use a medium-firm nylon brush, you brush before bed and want to feel the clean, or you've never had recession.
Horse bristle.
Finer, more flexible, gentler on the gum line. Closest feel to a medium-soft nylon brush. Best for sensitive routines.
Your dentist has flagged recession, you bleed when flossing, or you've always reached for soft-bristled brushes.
I’m using the Horse Hair toothbrush 1st & it seems a lovely product…nice to hold, the bristles are perfectly right for teeth cleaning for me, though occasionally a bristle or two will fall out which I don’t like the feeling of, but in the big scheme of things, it’s not a drama in comparison to using micro plastics which I did use for far too many yrs! I also ordered a pkt of the Boar hair bristle toothbrushes & have only felt it with my fingers…I now wish I’d ordered only the Horse Bristles as the Boar seems way too hard, though, pre-soaking in hot water may help them soften a little. I am very happy with my purchase!

To be honest a few bristles shedding is normal at the start with these toothbrushes. We don't use industrial glues, and as the bamboo swells and contracts a little a few bristles go loose, but it stabilizes after a few uses.

Amazing product. Once I got past the idea it's horse hair, OMG I've never had cleaner teeth with any other brush! Highly recommend!
I started with the boar bristle and jumped in without reading the pack. It's recommended to soak in hot water for 5 mins. Quite a lot firmer than I'm used to but very quickly got used to it and now love it. For the sensitive though I'd start with the softer horse hair to begin with. So good to know I'm no longer putting any plastic in my mouth.
Not bad for a horse hair toothbrush 😉. Takes a bit to get used to. Just needs a tongue scraper on it and it would be perfect 👌.
I am very happy with my natural bristle horse hair brush. The shape of the handle is quite large at the bottom, which takes a little bit to get accustomed to.
For the past year, I have slowly transitioning items around the house to plastic free options and absolutely loving the horse bristle toothbrushes! Was nervous at first but OMG they are sensational and my mouth feels cleaner than it ever did with fancy electric ones. Whoop whoop!

Took a few brushes to get used to but now I love it and definitely won’t going back to plastic. If the head was a tad bit smaller for my smaller mouth lol, it would be perfect. But very happy thankyou for supplying a nontoxic plastic free toothbrush! Finally!
I really love not brushing my teeth with plastic! The bristles of the toxin dodger brushes are nice on the gums and still get in the nook and crannies between teeth. Definitely recommend
It took a few days to adjust to a traditional style toothbrush again after using an electric brush for a quite a few years but I am loving it. The head is a good size, the bristles feel good and the bamboo handle is comfy. I brush more intentionally now,

I really like this toothbrush: it’s conscious living at its best. The head is a little bigger than my old brush, so that will take a bit of getting used to. In combination with my MooGoo toothpaste, I get a great clean. I am so glad I opted for the horse hair, as the boar bristle would absolutely be too firm, if this is the soft 😉. The only thing I would change is the texture of the bamboo - it is quite rough and causes a little rubbing/irritation at the corners of my mouth… I am going to try and sand it with a high grit sandpaper 😉. Take careful note that my usual storage method doesn’t work for this brush - I normally hang it on the mirror in the little ventilated “head”, but where the sides rest inside, doesn’t dry properly… I have switched back to the recommended method of standing on the basin. Otherwise, top marks on a marvellous product - would definitely recommend 👍🏼.
Love these toothbrushes. Was a little skeptical about using a toothbrush made from horse hair (wasn’t sure how soft they would be as I have sensitive gums) but wouldn’t go back to the normal ones and ingesting micro plastics! The bristles are gentle but clean well!
Would highly recommend! The only feedback I have is it would be great to have these in a smaller size for my 4YO. The head is a little big to use comfortably in her mouth.

These are simply very good toothbrushes, and lasting longer than I thought. Standing upright and drying effectively is my favourite feature.

My bf and I love these toothbrushes!! He has the boar and I have the horse, and they have been such game changers for us. I felt like my electric toothbrush wasn’t cleaning my teeth very well anymore, and my dentist actually told me to go back to a manual brush - but at the time I was really trying to de-tox and de-plastic our house. So glad I spent some time researching and then found these toxin dodger brushes. My teeth feel noticeably cleaner, and I’m stoked to not be adding any more plastic to my routine. Really hoping this brand brings out more non-toxic oral care – I’d happily switch everything over!!

fantastic, they feel better and the bristles actually get to work, especially on the tongue. Only thing i can suggest is a more ergonomic grip and maybe a way to make bristles stay in, occasionally one or two will come out, but that’s no issue

We were pregnant with our first when we fell down the rabbit hole.
Reading the studies on microplastics. Watching how much chronic disease there was around us, in family, in friends. The saying stuck with us: genetics loads the gun, environment pulls the trigger. And our environment was full of plastic and chemicals nobody asked for.

Are they vegan?+
No. The bristles are natural animal hair, a byproduct of the food industry. We're honest about this. The only alternative is plastic, which sheds microplastics into your mouth. We chose the option that doesn't.
Can my kids use these?+
Yes. We also make a dedicated kids brush with a shorter handle and softer bristle, sized for ages 3+. For adults, the horse (soft) bristle suits most families.
How do I dispose of the brush at end of life?+
Our toothbrushes are 100% compostable. No need to fuss around pulling out the bristles and recycling the different components separately; just throw it in the compost bin when you're done.
What if my dentist tells me to use a soft brush?+
Choose the horse bristle. It's soft and gentle on the gum line, closest to a soft nylon brush, and suits anyone with recession or sensitivity.
