The questions we get most.
How firm are the bristles? Boar or horse?
Boar is medium-firm for a thorough, scrubby clean, best if you like a proper scrub and have healthy gums. Horse is softer and gentler, best for sensitive gums or recession. Your starter pack includes both, so you try each and only ever refill the one you prefer.
Where do I get replacement heads?
Right here, anytime. Heads come in a 5-pack, boar or horse, and every head fits every Toxin Dodger handle. Once you've got the handle, you only ever buy the head again.
Will it go mouldy?
The handle is solid aluminium, so it can't. The head has only a small bamboo neck, steam-carbonised to strip out the sugars mould feeds on, and it dries fast standing in the ceramic holder. Far less material than a whole bamboo brush, and far less to think about.
Are they really plastic-free (and are they vegan)?
Yes, genuinely. The bristles are natural boar or horse hair, not nylon and not "plant-based" plastic (castor-oil bristles are just Nylon 1010 in disguise). That does mean they aren't vegan, and we're upfront about it. The hair is a food-industry byproduct that would otherwise be waste, sterilised and repurposed. The only alternative to animal hair is more plastic in your mouth.
How are the bristles sourced & sterilised?
How we source: we work closely with suppliers to ethically source our bristles in the same way hair brush manufacturers do.
Some hairs are taken from the animals during their upbringing, but most are up-cycled from animals already processed for food.
No animals are harmed specifically for bristles; it's a byproduct that would otherwise go to waste.
Is it perfect? No.
But here's what we're facing: it's the only truly plastic-free toothbrush option available.
Every plastic brush you use sheds microplastics into oceans, poisoning marine life and entering our food chain. Hundreds of millions end up in landfills annually, leaching toxins for centuries.
We're not contributing to animal agriculture – we're repurposing waste that already exists.
Until the world stops eating meat, there will be a surplus of boar hair.
We believe using it is better than creating more plastic pollution that harms countless animals and ecosystems.
How we sterilise: Our natural bristles are treated using a strict, multi-stage high-temperature sterilisation process.
The bristles are thoroughly steam sterilised at 100°C for 6 hours, and then UV light sanitized.
This strict thermal cleaning removes all biological matter, guaranteeing the bristles are completely sterile, hygienic, and odourless for safe use.
How long does each head last?
Like any toothbrush, replace the head every 6 to 12 weeks with normal hygiene use, in line with dentist guidance. Swap the head, keep the handle.

We were done being lied to. So we made the products we wish existed.
We were pregnant with our first when we fell down the rabbit hole. Reading the studies on microplastics. Watching how much chronic disease was around us, in family, in friends. The saying stuck with us: genetics loads the gun, environment pulls the trigger. And our environment was full of plastic and chemicals nobody asked for.
