Most toothbrushes have nylon bristles, even the bamboo ones. Nylon is plastic. Ours are horse or boar hair and our floss is silk, so nothing plastic touches your gums.

Find out more about Zero Plastic Silk Dental Floss - Refill (2x Spools)Horse hair is the soft one. It's a little softer than a medium plastic brush.
“… Was a little skeptical about using a toothbrush made from horse hair (wasn’t sure how soft they would be as I have sensitive gums) but wouldn’t go back to the normal ones and ingesting micro plastics! The bristles are gentle but clean well! …”
Some is trimmed at grooming, and the rest comes from animals already processed for food, so no animal is harmed specifically for its hair. It does mean our brushes aren't vegan.
“… I was hesitant at first as an animal product … so as long as the bristles were a previously wasted product, thrown away, I have come to terms with that fact. I bought 3 packets and give them out to my friends and family. …”
Our heads fit most Philips Sonicare handles. For any other brand, switch to a manual natural bristle brush.
“… I've been using an electric toothbrush for years, but these feel a lot better. I've had the boar bristle brush for about a month now and am very happy I made the swap.”
Stand any brush upright to dry. We steam-treat our bamboo and seal the base, and the Starter Pack handle is aluminium, so water can't travel up it.
“… It’s so nice that the bottoms of our toothbrushes don’t get mouldy anymore. …”
Replace each one every 6 to 12 weeks. A 4-pack of bamboo brushes or a 5-pack of heads lasts one person most of a year.
“These are simply very good toothbrushes, and lasting longer than I thought. Standing upright and drying effectively is my favourite feature.”

Yes. Toxin Dodger is run by Tailend Media Pty Ltd (ABN 47 613 353 852), an Australian-owned and operated company, and more than 25,000 Australians have bought from us. You'll only ever buy from us at toxindodger.com.
Our bristles are natural boar or horse hair, sourced the same way the hairbrush industry sources it. Some hair is trimmed at grooming, like horse manes and tails, and the rest comes from animals already processed for food. No animal is harmed specifically for its hair. So they're not vegan, and we're upfront about that.
They fit most Philips Sonicare click-on handles. They don't fit Philips One, Oral-B or older Philips screw-on handles. Check your model on the electric heads page before you buy.
Bamboo is a natural material, so it can go mouldy if it stays wet. We steam-treat our bamboo to remove the natural sugars mould feeds on, and seal the base to stop water soaking in. Stand your brush upright somewhere with good airflow between brushes. The Starter Pack has an aluminium handle, so water can't travel up it, and only the small neck of each head is bamboo.
Replace it every 6 to 12 weeks, depending on how dry and clean you keep it. A 4-pack of bamboo brushes or a 5-pack of heads lasts one person most of a year. We don't glue the bristles in, so a few loose hairs can come out in the first few brushes while the tufts settle into place.
Ages 3 and up. The kids brush has a smaller head and a shorter handle, with soft horse bristles. As with any toothbrush, supervise young kids while they brush.
Yes for our bamboo and kids brushes: there's no nylon, plastic or glue in them. A machine folds each little bunch of hairs around a tiny metal staple, made from a mix of zinc and copper, and presses it tightly into the bamboo. Before that, the bristles are steam sterilised at 100°C for 6 hours, then sanitised with UV light. Our electric heads have a small food-safe plastic core inside so they click onto your handle, and only bamboo and horse hair touch your mouth.
